The Springfield College Pride compete in NCAA Division III as members of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference in basketball, and as members of the Empire 8 Conference in football. Springfield, noteworthy as the institution where James Naismith invented basketball, is a private non-sectarian institution located on Watershops Pond near downtown Springfield, Massachusetts.
