The Springfield College Pride compete in NCAA Division III as members of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference in basketball, and as members of the Empire 8 Conference in football. Springfield, noteworthy as the institution where James Naismith invented basketball, is a private non-sectarian institution located on Watershops Pond near downtown Springfield, Massachusetts. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
