The California Polytechnic State University, usually referred to as "Cal Poly", Mustangs compete as members of the Great West Football Conference in NCAA Division I FCS football, and in the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. Cal Poly is a public institution located in San Luis Obipso, California, near the Pacific Ocean midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 17,000.
