The California State University, Long Beach, usually referred to as "Long Beach State", 49ers compete as members of the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 1991. Long Beach State is a public institution located in Long Beach, California, on the Pacific coast south of Los Angeles. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 35,000.
