The Longwood University Lancers compete as independents in NCAA Division I basketball, and will join the Big South Conference in the 2012-13 academic year. The school does not sponsor football. Longwood is a public institution located in the town of Farmville, Virginia, about an hour southwest of Richmond. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 4,000.
