The Virginia Polytechnic and State University, or "Virginia Tech", Hokies compete as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference in NCAA Division I FBS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. Virginia Tech is a public land-grant institution located in the southwestern Virginia town of Blacksburg. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 28,000. The school's athletic teams have sometimes been referred to as the "Gobblers," although this usage has waned with the national prominence of the university's sports programs.
