The Niagara University Purple Eagles compete as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 1951. Niagara is a private Catholic (Vincentian) institution located in Lewiston, New York, just north of Buffalo. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 3,000.
