The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, or UMES, Hawks compete as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 1979. UMES (formerly "Maryland State"), a historically black college, is a public land-grant institution located in the Delmarva Peninsula town of Princess Anne, Maryland. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 3,000.
