The Grantland Rice Bowl was a bowl game held at various locations from 1964 to 1977. The 1964-1968 games were played in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and served as the Mideast Regional championship in the NCAA College Division. When the divisions were realigned in 1969, the game became the South Regional championship, held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It remained there through 1975; with the advent of the playoff system in 1973, the 1973 and 1974 games were national semifinals rather than the South Regional championship. The final two games were hosted by the higher seed; the 1976 game was hosted by North Dakota State in Fargo, North Dakota, while the 1977 game was held in Anniston, Alabama, hosted by Jacksonville State. After that game, with the formation of Division I-AA the bowl game conceit was abandoned, and the bowl ceased to exist. Only the games through 1972 are presented here; the 1973-1977 games are listed with their respective playoffs.
