The Campbell University Camels compete as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school ceased sponsoring football in 1951 (when it was still a two-year college), but is reinstating its program for the 2008 season; no conference affiliation has yet been agreed upon. Campbell is a private Baptist institution located in the town of Buies Creek, North Carolina, in the center of the state near Sanford. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 7,000.
