The California State University, Northridge, usually referred to as "Cal State-Northridge" or "CSUN", Matadors compete as members of the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I basketball. The school has not sponsored football since 2001. Cal State-Northridge, formerly known as "San Fernando Valley State College", is a public institution located in Northridge, California, in the San Fernando Valley northwest of Los Angeles. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 27,000.
