The Appalachian State University Mountaineers compete as members of the Southern Conference in NCAA Division I FCS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. Appalachian State is a public institution located in Boone, North Carolina, in the northwest corner of the state near the Great Smoky Mountains. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 13,000.
