The University of Albuquerque ceased operations in 1986 when the school was closed by the Diocese of New Mexico. At the time, the school competed in NAIA basketball. It had never fielded a football team. Albuquerque, previously known as College of Saint Joseph on the Rio Grande, was a private Catholic (Franciscan) institution located in the capital city of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
