The University of Central Florida, or "UCF", Knights compete as members of Conference USA in NCAA Division I FBS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. The school was originally known as Florida Technological University, but should not be confused with Florida Tech. Central Florida is a public institution located in Orlando, Florida. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 40,000.

UCF sits on a large tract of land at the intersection of FL 434 (Alafaya Trail) and University Boulevard on the far eastern edge of Orlando. FL 408 (East-West Expressway) provides near-direct freeway access to campus from downtown, as the expressway terminates into Challenger Parkway, which ends less than a mile later at Alafaya Trail just a few blocks south of campus. Bright House Networks Stadium (45,000) and UCF Arena (10,000) sit on the northeastern quadrant of campus, within the UCF athletics complex located on Orion Boulevard between McCulloch Road and Gemini Boulevard.

The Knights' main traditional rivalry lies an hour west on I-4 with South Florida. Disregarding geography, UCF has also developed a heated in-conference rivalry with Marshall.

Notable Knights in the NFL include Pro Bowlers QB Duante Culpepper, DB Asante Samuel, and WR Brandon Marshall, as well as WR Shawn Jefferson and DB Travis Fisher. Mark Jones and Jermaine Taylor are the only UCF alumni to see NBA action.
