The Towson University Tigers compete as members of the Colonial Athletic Association in NCAA Division I FCS football and in NCAA Division I basketball. Towson, formerly known as "Towson State", is a public institution located in the northern Baltimore suburb of Towson, Maryland. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of around 14,000.
The campus is near the corner of MD 45 (York Road) and Towsontown Boulevard, a mile south of either exit 26 or 27A on I-695 (Baltimore Beltway). Johnny Unitas Stadium (11,000) and Towson Center (5,250) are nestled in the southern corner of campus along Auburn Drive.
Towson's chief rivals are local; Loyola (MD) and Maryland-Baltimore County are long-standing rivals from Division III days.
Towson has "only" sent eight players to the NFL, but two of them are Pro Bowlers: P Sean Landeta and RB Dave Meggett. DBs Chad Scott and Madieu Williams had successful careers as regular starters in the league, as well. Only one former Tiger has reached the NBA, however. G Kurk Lee played one season with the Nets in 1990-91.
