'''Great West Conference Men's Basketball''' existed from 2008-2013. The conference effectively served as the catch-all for the remaining NCAA Division I independents once the existing Great West Football Conference decided to begin competing in all sports. However, the massive realignment which took place in 2011-2013 left the Great West with exactly one member, no Division I independents to pick up, no Division II schools attempting to reclassify, and no conferences to raid since the Great West was the bottom of the totem pole. To the surprise of nobody, the conference disbanded, leaving its lone member, [[New Jersey Tech]], as the sole NCAA Division I independent. The conference never did receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I tournament (or even an at-large), though the Great West did receive the only automatic berth in the [[CollegeInsider.com Tournament]].
