D2: Week 4 Recap/Week 5 Preview.

Well, I’m just doing this for my own gratification now. It might be a good time to let me know you actually get some benefit out of this, before it goes away.  Cold hard facts: my pageviews are off 90% from last year (despite the fact that last year, I wasn’t even tweeting links to new content), and given the amount of spam comments I have to trash each day, I simply don’t know whether there’s anyone actually READING this thing outside of a couple of guys who want to contribute, and there’s not much point letting them proceed for no reason.

I don’t mean to be butthurt here; I can accept not providing value for your entertainment $0.00, I just really would like to know if I’m just wasting my time here.  I mean, I could be killing zombies or watching Justified or hanging out in a local dive bar instead of doing this, if it doesn’t matter to anyone.  Or, put another way, it’s not butthurt… it’s desperation.

To be fair, I could probably be doing a better job pimping myself, but it’s not in my nature.  So if you really give a crap about what I’m doing… help me out a little.  If you like it, retweet or otherwise pimp.  If you’re ambivalent, tell me why, tell me how I can improve.  If you hate the site… well, shit, if you hate the site you’re not even reading this anyway.

Oh… right.  Football.

Games to keep an eye on:
#15 Pittsburg State at #1 Northwest Missouri State
#25 Ouachita Baptist at #6 Delta State
#9 Wayne State (MI) at 3-1 Northern Michigan
3-1 Western Oregon at #11 Abilene Christian
#13 Albany State vs 3-1 Kentucky State (at Indianapolis)
#24 Hillsdale at 3-0 Saginaw Valley State
3-1 American International at 3-1 Bentley
3-1 Winona State at 3-1 Minnesota State-Mankato

FCS: Week 4 Recap/Week 5 Preview.

There weren’t a great many major upsets within FCS, but the division had a whale of a week playing against the big boys. A 3-10 record on the week may not seem like much, but trust me, that’s a successful week for the FCS against FBS competition.

Big games coming up this week:
#1 Georgia Southern at 3-1 Elon
#3 Appalachian State at #8 Wofford
#25 Sacramento State at #4 Montana State
#10 Richmond at #9 James Madison
2-0 Yale at #13 Lehigh
#20 Massachusetts at 3-1 Old Dominion
#22 South Carolina State at 3-1 Norfolk State
#23 Towson at FBS Maryland
3-1 Bryant at 3-1 Duquesne
3-1 Tennessee Tech at 2-1 Tennessee-Martin
3-1 Georgetown at 3-1 Bucknell
2-1 Texas Southern at 3-1 Jackson State

More in-depth nonsense, snark, and outright viciousness after this.

NAIA: Week 3 Recap/Week 4 Preview.

A relatively placid weekend in the NAIA, although the #3 team in the nation stumbled.

#18 Shorter at #7 Georgetown (KY)
#22 Baker at #6 Missouri Valley
#11 Morningside at #9t Midland
Montana State-Northern at #17 Rocky Mountain

And now, the good stuff:

Reporting Error.

The source that feeds me my scores temporarily misrepresented the score of the Huntingdon (D-III)/Faulkner (NAIA) game, showing a 41-18 Faulkner win rather than a 48-41 Huntingdon win.  The scoreboard on the D-III recap page won’t be corrected, but the text relating has been.

Oddly, the standings report was correct, so I should have caught this from the get-to.  Sorry for the mixup.

D-III: Week 3 Recap/Week 4 Preview.

Programming note: trying another new format. I don’t know how long it will last, and since nobody’s telling me what works and doesn’t work, I am going to keep flailing away with ideas.

Saturday we had three upsets in the top 11, a slight correction within the top 5, and a whole bunch of shakedown cruises heading into conference play for most of the division. Big games for the coming week:

#3 Saint Thomas (MN) at 2-0 Concordia-Moorhead
#4 Mary Hardin-Baylor at #21 Hardin-Simmons
#8 Thomas More at 3-0 Washington & Jefferson
#9 Ohio Northern at 2-0 Muskingum
#16 Alfred at 2-0 Springfield
#23 Mississippi College at 2-0 Louisiana
2-1 Muhlenberg at 3-0 Johns Hopkins
2-1 Central (IA) at 3-0 Dubuque

D-II: Week 3 Recap/Week 4 Preview.

This week’s D-II preview will be truncated due to time issues; the upcoming games are not included in the post, but I will discuss the important ones. Next week, we should be on a proper schedule, especially since the realignment drama in FBS seems to have screeched to a halt. Last week, the reigning #1 fell, and five teams in the top 10 lost all told.

FCS: Week 3 Recap/Week 4 Preview.

The number of unbeaten FCS teams dwindles to nine (thirteen if we include the Ivy league teams which won their openers this week). The defending champion continues to spiral downward into oblivion, as does Villanova; on the other side of the coin, Old Dominion remains undefeated and the soon-to-be vacant Great West finds itself with two teams in the poll. And did South Alabama make it to 20-0? Stay tuned and find out.

NAIA: Week 2 Recap/Week 3 Preview.

Since the NAIA didn’t release their first in-season poll until this week, there were some “upsets” that really weren’t (I’m looking at you, pre-season #7 Dickinson State).

But there was one that most definitely was: #1 Carroll (MT) has been knocked off their throne. Details, and our first real look at the NAIA this year, after the jump.

D-III Week 2 Recap/Week 3 Preview.

For the second week in a row, a top five team stumbled. One conference appears to have decided they’re just not going to lose games, and two others can’t buy a win. The WIAC schedule for the week included seven ranked teams and four of the top five, but after the dust settled three of those teams weren’t ranked anymore.

Big games to keep an eye on this week:
#7 Wheaton (IL) at Wisconsin-Platteville
#18 Kean at #11 Cortland State
Pacific Lutheran at #19 Cal Lutheran
#21 Wittenberg at Washington (MO)
Lebanon Valley at #25 Delaware Valley
Lycoming at Widener
Bridgewater State at Plymouth State
