Mary Hardin-Baylor completed the second unbeaten regular season in school history, racking up 699 yards of offense in crushing Texas Lutheran.

Hardin-Simmons pulled to within two points of Lousiana College with half a minute to play, then quickly drove to the 22 yard-line before attempting a potential game-winning 39-yard field goal. The kick was no good, and Louisiana held on for the upset. LC’s Ben McLaughlin and HSU’s Justin Feaster both threw for over 300 yards and had five touchdown passes apiece.

Mary Hardin-Baylor won the autobid last week, and clinched the outright conference title this week in their rout of Texas Lutheran.

PLU drove 76 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:10 to go to hold off visiting Willamette and keep their playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately, despite their 8-1 record, they were left out of the field.

Aaron Boehme threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns before halftime, then watched the rest of the game as Linfield defeated Lewis & Clark for the 33rd straight time.

Whitworth RB Adam Anderson ran for six scores and threw for a seventh as as the Pirates pounded Puget Sound. Anderson had 224 yards on the day, and finished his career with 3,338 yards, a school record. His six rushing touchdowns extended his own school career record to 55.

#5 St. Thomas (MN) idle

Logan Flannery ran for 180 yards, pushing his career total to 4,775, as Bethel handled Augsburg. He’ll have at least one more chance to reach the 5,000 yard mark, as Bethel was invited to the playoffs.

Despite playing in a driving snowstorm which dumped 8 inches on the area, St. John’s had 404 passing yards, 318 by starting QB Joe Boyle, and 604 yards of total offense in their rout of Hamline. The weather resulted in an attendance of only 1,688, the lowest attendance for a Johnnies’ home game since 1992. Despite the low crowd, St. John’s managed to lead Division III in regular-season home total attendance and average attendance.

St. Thomas grabbed the autobid and the outright conference title two weeks ago. Bethel was awarded a Pool C bid.

Middle Atlantic:
Widener 28, at #11 Delaware Valley 27
at Wilkes 21, Kings 17
at Lebanon Valley 28, Albright 13
Lycoming 17, at FDU-Florham 10

One of the neatest small-college traditions: Monday afternoon, after having beaten their arch-rival Albright, Lebanon Valley students marched to the home of the college president to request the day before Thanksgiving off from classes. They get another reward for their win; an ECAC Bowl invite.

Good thing Delaware Valley had already sealed the outright title and autobid last week. Trailing 27-20, on fourth-and-six from the DVC 11 with only 3 seconds to go, Widener scored to pull within a point. Rather than send it into overtime, Widener went for two and converted with no time left to score the upset.

Saturday:
East Region: (5)Salisbury at (4)Delaware Valley
ECAC South Atlantic Bowl: Lebanon Valley at Johns Hopkins
ECAC Southeast Bowl: Moravian at Wilkes

Final Standings:

at Gettysburg 57, Franklin & Marshall 35
Washington & Lee 45, at Juniata 3 (non-conference)

Gettysburg sophomore Kody Smith made his first career start, and uncorked 281 yards and three TD passes to lead the Bullets past F&M. Johns Hopkins knocked off arch-rival McDaniel for the 10th consecutive season. Muhlenberg had a chance to tie the game after a touchdown with 1:05 to go, but the PAT was blocked, costing the Mules the opportunity to claim the outright conference title.

Apparently, the last thing you want in this conference is to be all alone in first place. Muhlenberg clinched the autobid and a share of the conference title last week, but their loss this week, along with wins by Ursinus and Johns Hopkins, leaves the final result as a three-way tie for the championship.

Saturday:
South Region: (8)Muhlenberg at (1)Wesley
ECAC South Atlantic Bowl: Lebanon Valley at Johns Hopkins
ECAC Southeast Bowl: Moravian at Wilkes
ECAC Southwest Bowl: Franklin & Marshall at Washington & Jefferson

#23 Rowan 27, at New Jersey 7

Buffalo State 56, at Brockport State 45
at Morrisville State 48, Western Connecticut State 25

Cortland win the Cortaca Jug for the first time since 2006, helped along by 232 rushing yards from sophomore Justin Autera. Ithaca led 17-3 midway through the third quarter before the Dragons rallied for the win.

Montclair head coach Rick Giancola joined an exclusive club including St. John’s John Gagliardi, Mount Union’s Larry Kehres, and conference colleague Eric Hamilton at New Jersey; the four head coaches are the only active Division III coaches with 200 career wins following Montclair’s victory over Paterson.

As mostly expected, the three-way tie at the top did in fact occur, and Cortland won the opponent’s opponent’s winning percentage tiebreaker, thus gaining the autobid. Montclair snagged a Pool C bid.

University:

Chicago wins the outright conference title with their win over Washington. Alas, their season ends, as they did not receive a Pool B nod.

Final Standings:

Chicago 8-2 3-0
Washington (MO) 7-3 2-1

at Hampden-Sydney 31, Randolph-Macon 28
Washington & Lee 45, at Juniata 3 (non-conference)
Bridgewater 38, at Catholic 28
at Emory & Henry 27, Guilford 3

The 116th meeting between Hampden-Sydney and Randolph-Macon was a good one. RMC jumped out to a 14-0 lead on a fumbled punt return and a blocked punt recovery before HSC reeled off 28 unanswered points. RMC then fought back themselves, but came up short, scoring with under a minute to go and recovering the onside kick, but failing to capitalize from there.

Washington & Lee won their seventh straight, the longest winning streak for the school since 1982. A win in the opening round against Thomas More would result in the team’s longest streak since 1963.

Washington & Lee won the autobid and outright conference title last week. Hampden-Sydney was awared a Pool C bid.

Allegheny 17, at Oberlin 14 (not a conference game)
Denison 27, at Kenyon 7
at Ohio Wesleyan 47, Hiram 24

Allegheny led Oberlin 17-0 with 1:29 to play when Oberlin decided to make things interesting, although their effort ultimately came up short. Ohio Wesleyan freshman QB Mason Espinosa threw for 471 yards and six TDs as the Bishops, tied at 21-21 in the third quarter, turned on the afterburners and throttled Hiram. And Wabash took DePauw behind the woodshed in the Monon Bell, preventing the Tigers from both a perfect regular season and from evening the all-time series between the schools.

Wittenberg avoided the ridiculous tiebreaking procedure in the NCAC by beating Wooster and claiming the undisputed conference championship and autobid.
