COVENANT
lyrics: J. Morse © 1984
On a silent vision, the wings of mercy waving in the wind
Locked in sharp precision, an aerial mission dying on the flame
Hear a voice cry on the breezes of eternity
Rushing to the rescue of a maiden fair
See the sword slice the air
On a blackened background, A spot of silver floating through the sun
Intensify the training, through the raining of a liquid fire
Hear the static on the frequency of eternity
Receive a cry for rendering of aid
Has the price for freedom been paid?
Has the promise finally been fulfilled?
After centuries, has the curse at last been stilled?
The documents were signed and sealed
With holy judgement as the witness
Hear the bells, they're being pealed
But will the enemy yield?
I don't care! I am no hero
It's not fair to force this on me
I didn't sign the covenant
Why won't you let me be?
I heard the call in the wind, but I did not obey
I thought that I was in a dream
Was it the call of a damsel in distress
Or of a nation, shouting through the steam?
If I thought I could, I'd drop it all and run away
But, alas, I've got the mark on me
There's a cry from the soul that just won't rest
And the covenant of old, it's calling me
I don't care! I am no hero
It's not fair to force this on me
I didn't sign the covenant
Why won't you let me be? -- Because
Centuries ago, on a bloody battlefield
A bond of dreams was forever forged and steeled
The documents were signed by all, and then they were sealed
And now the bells of judgement have been pealed
And to the covenant you must yield
