BLACK SWORD
lyrics: J. Morse © 1984
As thunder roars through the plains of Eveland
An unseen foe, ebony blade in hand
Begins a trek to the far-off virgin sand
In search of treasure and power grand
As the sword steals a soul
As the prince ascends the knoll
As the peasants flee to distant towns
The prince, his name unheard
An evil, unspoken word
In quest for treasured gold and royal crowns
Prince of night displays his might
Armies fall, afraid
Ebony steel takes its meal
The pitiful souls have paid
As sunlight falls on the meadowlands of Arden
Many flock to see the boy-man Jeszenn
Ivory rapier, made by learned and arcane men
Can only go where evil has already been
As the sword has a soul
As the boy descends the knoll
As the wond'ring peasants flock from leagues away
The boy, Jeszenn, his name
Has quickly garnered his fame
But chances are now that these are his last days
Prince of light displays his might
Armies bow in awe
Ivory blade, garnished with jade
Fascinating all those who saw
As winds howl across the Argolian shield
Forces meet in war on the Pendlehaven field
The evil one claims that he will never yield
The good one waits until the last bells have pealed
As the magic flames will rise
The embers flicker in the eyes
Of all who hide to watch the final duel
The princes, senses grown bold
The final battle, story told
The victor between good and evil, who will rule?
Princes might rejoice the flight
Of the loser, drowned in shame
Black and white, clash and bite
Please reveal to us the conqueror's name
As dew glistens in the grasses of Carolan
Stormclouds gather, rain held in their span
The final sunbeams glow upon only one man
Victorious, Jeszenn; the black prince no longer stands.
