NEW YEAR'S EVE

I - Setting Sun

I see the light burning low for you
As you lie there not quite alive
How can I say what's on my mind?
Won't you open up your eyes?
Let me know you're still there
Why'd you have to go before your time?
Oh, you are a Setting Sun
     You were the innocent one
Floating past the horizon. . . Setting Sun
You're a victim, you're innocent
You've never done anything to hurt anyone
But now you're just lying there
Fading away like the Setting Sun
You suffer, the accident
Why would he take your life this way?
No one could save you now
And I hurt more than anyone
   I bear the guilt
Even though I know it isn't mine to bear
   Played to the hilt
The blade of shame is there - it isn't fair
   Cut me through the heart
It's so difficult to part from you. . . from you
Oh, you are a Setting Sun
     You were the innocent one
Floating past the horizon. . . Setting Sun
I see the light burning low for you
As you lie there not quite alive
How can I say what's on my mind?
Won't you open up your eyes?
Let me know you're still there
Why'd you have to go before your time?
Oh, you are a Setting Sun
     You were the innocent one
Floating past the horizon. . . Setting Sun
Oh, you are a Setting Sun
     You were the innocent one
Floating past the horizon. . . Setting Sun

II - Nightfall

Has anyone ever felt as empty as I do?
There's no one left in my life but me and you
I never thought it could end so suddenly
The world would end today if it were up to me
Because the final night has fallen - fallen down on me
There's only one thing that could happen to ever set me free
I need someone to hold onto - someone to hold on me
   Through Nightfall. . .
It's a starless night tonight, no moon there to shine
Everyone has lost their fight - when do I lose mine?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind?
I look at things that happen today, no moral there to find
Memories never go away, especially when they're mine
Should auld acquaintance be forgot for Auld Lang Syne?
But at last the night has fallen - fallen down on me
I'm not so sure that anything could ever set me free
Is there anyone left to love? Someone to hold on me
   Through Nightfall. . .
It's a starless night tonight, the moon, still, with no shine
May not see its coming day - but will I see mine?

III - Rising Sun

I see the fire burning in your eyes
As you stand there, tears on your cheek
How can I say what's on my mind?
Tears could never douse the flame in your heart
As you're thinking, "Why only us?
Are we just two of a kind?"
   Oh, you're the Rising Sun
   You are the vengeful one
Raging over the city. . . Rising Sun
You're not gonna let it get you
Down and out, you'll stand and fight
Can you lift me off the ground?
You may be the only one who's right
You won't let fate control your life
You'll never let the world come down around you
Can you sweep me up out of the dirt?
Make me realize. Make me see the light
   'Cause I bear the guilt
Even though it isn't mine to bear
   Plunged to the hilt
The blade of pain is there - it's still not fair
   Cut me through the heart
But please don't part from me.
