PIRATES OF THE MARQUE
lyrics: J. Morse © 1983
Sailed out of Barcelona, with letters in our hands
In search of glittering gold and claims to distant lands
With permission from the throne we sail across the seas
Taking anything we please
Fly the jolly roger with orders from the queen
We'll send all her enemies to place they've never been
They will never stop us, no matter how they try
They'll try to sail away from our battle cry
Because we're pirates of the marque, doing our duty
Pirates of the marque, bringing home our booty
Pirates of the marque, we'll drink a jug of rum
And challenge all our enemies to come!
Sailed off Caracas, and found a native tribe
They tried to appease us with what they thought a priceless bribe
But we won't let them get away until we've had our fill
Of the terror we've been charged to instill
Sailing 'cross the high seas on our way back to Spain
A British ship attacked us, and we inflicted pain
The Union Jack soon disappeared into the foamy brine
There to lie until the end of time
We're pirates of the marque, come to claim our prize
Pirates of the marque, under orders from the wise
Pirates of the marque, we'll drink a jug of rum
And challenge all our enemies to come!
Sailing through Gibraltar, preparing to make land
But we'd been double-crossed! The queen had played her hand
The Spanish fleet attacked, and through the strait we ran
And taunted them, "Catch us if you can!"
No more pirates of the marque, so we'll devise another duty
Pirates, all alone, so we'll keep all our booty!
Pirates, with no home, we'll drink a jug of rum
And challenge all our enemies to come!
